Andy Montañez is a Puerto Rican singer and songwriter born on May 7, 1942. He first gained fame as a member of the internationally successful group El Gran Combo, where he contributed to many popular songs, including "Hojas blancas," "Un verano en N.Y.," "El barbero loco," "Julia," "Ponme el alcoholado, Juana," "Vagabundo," and "El Swing." Montañez was with El Gran Combo for approximately 15 years, during which the group produced 37 LPs. After leaving El Gran Combo, he pursued a career with the Venezuelan group La Dimension Latina, leading to a feud between the two groups. He later enjoyed considerable international success with his own orchestra, touring Latin America and the United States multiple times. In 1992, he represented Puerto Rico at the World's Fair in Seville, Spain.
