Animal Collective is a New York-based avant-garde collective originally formed in Baltimore, Maryland. The band consists of members David Portner, Noah Lennox, Josh Dibb, and Brian Weitz. In the early 2000s, before adopting the name "Animal Collective," the members released several albums under their stage names. Their debut album, "Spirit They're Gone Spirit They've Vanished," was released in 2000 under the names Avey Tare and Panda Bear. The following year, they released "Danse Manatee" under the names Panda, Geologist, and Avey. These albums are now considered part of Animal Collective's discography and have been re-released under the collective's name. Additionally, the first pressing of their 2002 live album "Hollinndagain" was released under the names Avey Tare, Panda Bear, and Geologist, with later reissues being released as Animal Collective.
