The Animated Egg was a studio-only group that released a self-titled album of psychedelic instrumentals in the late '60s. The chief instigator behind the Animated Egg was a renowned Los Angeles session guitarist, whose fuzzy leads, along with electric 12-string, surf, and Latin lines, dominated the arrangements. He also wrote the material for the album. Although he was uncertain about the other personnel involved when asked about the LP years later, possible accompanists included Edgar Lamar and others on drums; Tommy Lee and others on bass; Billy Joe Hastings and others on guitar; and others on organ. Despite the high instrumental talent involved, the Animated Egg's sound seemed somewhat hastily assembled to capitalize on the psychedelic trend. The guitarist also played on several similar "psychsploitation" LPs during that era, credited to different groups.
