Ansel Collins, born in 1949 in Kingston, Jamaica, is a renowned musician known for his contributions to reggae music. He began his career as a drummer before transitioning to keyboards in the mid-1960s. In the late 1960s, he performed with the Invincibles band, which included notable members such as Lloyd Parks, Sly Dunbar, and Ranchie McLean. Collins played keyboards on iconic tracks like The Maytals' "Pressure Drop" and "Sweet and Dandy." He gained significant recognition as part of the duo Dave and Ansel Collins alongside Dave Barker, achieving a number one hit in the UK in 1971 with "Double Barrel." His keyboard playing is representative of the Skinhead reggae style. Throughout his career, Collins has also worked as a producer and released several solo records, including "Cock Robin," "Atlantic One," "Stalag," and "Nuclear Weapon" between 1969 and 1971, as well as a few albums later on. In the 1970s, he was a member of the Channel One studio band The Revolutionaries, the Impact All Stars, and Sugar Minott's Black Roots Players, contributing to many classic roots reggae songs.
