Anthony Phillip is a British multi-instrumentalist born on 23 December 1951 in Chiswick, West London, England. He is best known as the original guitarist for the band Genesis, appearing on their first two albums, From Genesis to Revelation (1969) and Trespass (1970). After leaving Genesis in 1970 due to increasing stage fright, he began recording solo demos, which led to his first solo album, The Geese and the Ghost, released in 1977. Phillips also briefly played keyboards and guitar for Genesis, contributing to their 11th studio album in 1982. He studied music formally and took up the piano in 1971. Since 1977, he has enjoyed a long and relatively successful solo career, recording numerous soundtracks, solo albums, and collaborations, as well as working as a producer and recording engineer. His brother is an oboe player.
