Anthony Phillips is a British multi-instrumentalist born on December 23, 1951, in Chiswick, West London, England. He is best known as the original guitarist for the band Genesis, contributing to their first two albums, "From Genesis to Revelation" (1969) and "Trespass" (1970). Phillips briefly played keyboards and guitar for the band, appearing on their 11th studio album in 1982. He left Genesis in 1970 due to increasing stage fright and began recording solo demos that year, leading to his first solo album, "The Geese and the Ghost," released in 1977. In 1971, he started studying music formally and took up the piano. Since 1977, Phillips has enjoyed a long and relatively successful solo career, recording numerous soundtracks, solo albums, and collaborations. He has also worked as a producer and recording engineer. His brother is an oboe player.
