António da Silva Leite was a Portuguese composer born in Porto in 1759 and passed away in the same city in 1833. He served as the chapel master at Sé Catedral do Porto and participated in various music-liturgical groups that thrived in Porto. Leite composed a wide range of religious music that was used in church ceremonies throughout Portugal for many years. In addition to his sacred works, he created numerous pieces of secular music and dedicated significant attention to the guitar. He became a notable theorist in this area, authoring the first compendium of guitar theory published in Portugal.
