Apoll, whose real name is André Pollmann, began his music career in 1987 in Duisburg, an industrial town in the German Ruhrgebiet. He was part of the emerging EBM scene influenced by artists such as Skinny Puppy, Front Line Assembly, Clock Dva, Tuxedomoon, Fad Gadget, Soft Cell, à grumh…, The Neon Judgement, Front 242, Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk, and Portion Control. Throughout his early career, Apoll founded numerous bands and contributed tracks to various electronic body music compilations, releasing an album on the Spanish label Bol Records in 1990. In 1991, Apoll relocated to Switzerland, where he transitioned away from the EBM scene and embraced his passion for producing and DJing electronic, minimal dance music. He has released music on labels such as Tokyo's Gyro Trax and Cologne's Sub Static, gaining acclaim for his EPs. In early 2001, Apoll established his own label, Tongut, which focuses on minimal, dubby quality techno and features artists like Cologne's Rene Breitbarth and Falko Brocksieper, along with Novatek, Todd Bodine, and Dub Taylor. Apoll himself released the first three records on the label.
