Apollo 440 is an English electronic music group formed in Liverpool in 1990. They have released five studio albums and have collaborated with and produced other artists, as well as remixed tracks under the name Apollo 440 and their ambient cinematic alter-ego, Stealth Sonic Orchestra. The group has created music for film, television, advertisements, and multimedia. Over their career spanning eleven years, they achieved eleven top-40 UK singles, including three in the top 10, and gained recognition worldwide. Their name is derived from the Greek god Apollo, the frequency of concert pitch (A440), and the Sequential Circuits sampler/sequencer, the Studio 440. In 1996, they changed the writing of their name to Apollo Four Forty, but later reverted to Apollo 440 for their latest album. When performing live, they were joined by a DJ on the decks.
