April Stevens was an American singer and songwriter born on April 29, 1929, in Niagara Falls, New York. She passed away on April 17, 2023, in Scottsdale, Arizona, at the age of 93. She was the older sister of Antonino Bart LoTempio and the daughter of Samuel Joseph LoTempio. The family moved to Los Angeles in 1948. April began her recording career at the age of 22 with RCA Victor in 1951. She achieved significant success as part of a singing duo with her brother, charting 17 times on the U.S. charts. In 1963, she won a Grammy Award for Best Rock & Roll Recording for the song "Deep Purple." As a solo artist, she charted twice, with notable songs including "Teach Me Tiger," written by her brother Nino, which faced bans in several areas due to its suggestive lyrics, and "Wake Up and Love Me," co-written with her brother and Jeff Barry. Additionally, she charted three times with songs she wrote, including "A Woman's Story," which reached #41 in the U.K. in 1986, co-written with her brother Nino and Phil Spector.
