Ara Pacis was a rock group formed in 1971 on the island of Föhr in the North Sea. Initially influenced by blues and classic rock bands like The Rolling Stones and The Who, they drew inspiration from Steely Dan and the German/British group Lake as well. The band's sound was characterized by two-part guitar riffs created by core songwriters Töns Brautlecht-Deppe and Wolfgang Schiffner. In 1979, they released their privately pressed and self-distributed LP titled “To the Westcoast.” Although Ara Pacis officially disbanded in 1982, they are fondly remembered by fans for their live performances and held revival concerts in 1990 and 2002. They also maintain a website featuring the band's history and a collection of images from their early days.
