Arco Iris is an Argentinian progressive rock group founded in 1968 in Greater Buenos Aires. The band was established by a guitarist, along with a flutist and wind instrument player, a drummer, and a bassist. They released a couple of singles in the late 1960s and later befriended a figure who introduced them to communitarian living. This experience led to the release of their first LP, "Arco Iris," in 1970, followed by "Tiempo de Resurrección" in 1972. After the departure of a member who disagreed with the band's new lifestyle, they were joined by a new musician. They released their third album, "Sudamérica o el Regreso a la Aurora," a double rock opera, and "Inti-Raymi." Their most progressive work, "Agitor Lucens V," was released in 1975, after which two members left to form a new group. Arco Iris achieved notable success with the hit single "Mañana Campestre" in 1971 and continued to release albums that blended progressive rock with South American folk until 1977, when two members moved to California after releasing "Los Elementales." The group maintained activity, touring and releasing folk and new age-oriented cassettes and LPs, but faced a hiatus following the passing of a member in 2003. They have since reunited and released another album.
