Arsenio Rodriguez was a Cuban musician born on August 31, 1911, in Güira de Macurijes, Matanzas, Cuba. He played the tres, a type of Cuban guitar, and was instrumental in reorganizing the conjunto and developing the son montuno and other Afro-Cuban rhythms during the 1940s and 50s. Rodriguez claimed to be the true creator of the mambo and was a prolific composer, writing nearly two hundred song lyrics. He passed away in Los Angeles on December 31, 1970. He was also a cousin of another individual, though that information is not provided.
