Arsenio Rodríguez was a Cuban musician born on August 31, 1911, in Güira de Macurijes, Matanzas, Cuba. He was known for playing the tres (Cuban guitar) and was instrumental in reorganizing the conjunto and developing the son montuno, along with other Afro-Cuban rhythms during the 1940s and 50s. Rodríguez claimed to be the true creator of the mambo and was a prolific composer, having written nearly two hundred song lyrics. He passed away in Los Angeles on December 31, 1970.
