Art Blakey was an American jazz drummer and bandleader, born on October 11, 1919, in Pittsfied, Pennsylvania, and he passed away on October 16, 1990. He was a key figure in the development of hard bop and is best known for his work with the Jazz Messengers, a group he founded in the 1950s that became a proving ground for many young jazz musicians. Blakey's drumming style was characterized by its power and intensity, and he was known for his ability to drive a band with his energetic playing. Throughout his career, he was influential in shaping the sound of modern jazz and helped to mentor numerous artists who would go on to have successful careers in music.
