Art Farmer was an American jazz trumpeter and flugelhorn player, born on August 21, 1928, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and passed away on October 4, 1999, in New York City. He formed an association with a saxophonist/composer in the mid-1950s and later co-founded a group with another musician after a brief period with another ensemble. Farmer performed in a notable group from 1971 until 1977. Later in his career, he exclusively played a custom-designed flumpet, which was built for him to combine the qualities of both the trumpet and flugelhorn. He was the twin brother of bassist who died in 1963.
