**Bio of Art Lown** Art Lown, known to friends and family as "Ardie," was born on December 21, 1949, in West Columbia, South Carolina. He was an introverted and sensitive individual, raised in a respected family with a strong community presence. Ardie excelled academically, serving as an honor student and drum major in high school, and later pursued commercial art at Virginia Commonwealth University. He showed an early interest in music, influenced by The Beatles, and formed a band with his brother Wayne, cousin Mark, and friend James. After high school, Ardie performed at various venues in Columbia, including The Stage Door and The Scarlet Pumpernickel, often accompanied by friends and family. He recorded his only album, *Piper Oz the Hound*, in 1976 with session musicians from United Music World, where he worked. The album features a cohesive sound, blending country and psych pop, and explores themes of love and heartbreak. Despite its limited distribution, *Piper Oz* is recognized for its emotional depth and lyrical honesty. The album's standout track, "I Knew You Well," encapsulates its themes of yearning and disappointment. Art Lown passed away on February 8, 1977, just months after the album's release, leaving behind a legacy that continues to resonate.
