Art Pepper was an American jazz saxophonist born on September 1, 1925, in Gardena, California. He began his musical journey on the clarinet before switching to the alto saxophone at the age of 13. By 17, Pepper was already performing professionally. After being drafted for military service in 1943, he emerged as a leading alto saxophonist during the 1950s, closely associated with the West Coast Jazz scene. He was inducted into the Down Beat Jazz Hall of Fame in 1982 and passed away on June 15, 1982, in Los Angeles, California.
