Arthur Alexander was a southern soul and country soul singer born on May 10, 1940, in Florence, Alabama. He passed away on June 9, 1993, in Nashville, Tennessee. Alexander was one of the first artists to record at a prototype Muscle Shoals Studio, and the success of his hit "You'd Better Move On" helped to develop these studios. Although he never achieved significant fame as a singer and faced health issues that led to his retirement from the music business in 1975, he made a noteworthy return with a comeback album in 1993 that was well received by both audiences and critics. Unfortunately, his comeback tour was cut short due to his premature death from heart failure. While Alexander had a few minor hits, he is better known for the covers of his songs by other artists. His tragic, harmony-laden track "Anna" was covered by various musicians, and "You'd Better Move On" appears on an EP. Other artists have also recorded songs written by Alexander. Additionally, "If It's Really Got to Be This Way" and "Every Day I Have to Cry Some" are among his notable works. Alexander's singing style is characterized by a soft, low crooning reminiscent of other soulful artists.
