Arthur Lyman was a renowned Polynesian/Hawaiian jazz vibraphone and marimba player, born on February 2, 1932, in the US territory of Kauai, Hawaii. He passed away on February 24, 2002, in Honolulu, Hawaii, at the age of 70. Lyman is credited with helping to create the musical genre Exotica, characterized by its Afro-Cuban rhythms, unusual instruments, jungle animal sounds, and romantic tone. In 1990, he was honored with a Nā Hōkū Hanohano Lifetime Achievement Award from the Hawai'i Academy of Recording Arts.
