Haruo Minami, known by his real name 三波春夫, was a prominent Japanese Rōkyoku and Enka singer born on July 19, 1923. He passed away on April 14, 2001. A notable figure of the Shōwa era, he was recognized for his cheerful smile and his voice trained in Rōkyoku. Minami was the first male singer to don a kimono as a garment in the Kayōkyoku genre. Throughout his career, he had a rivalry with Hideo Murata, who trained under the same Rōkyoku master and debuted a year later in 1958, leading to several incidents between the two.
