Artur Nunes, born on December 17, 1950, in Barrio Cuba, Sambizanga, Angola, was a legendary figure in the pre-independence era of Angola. Renowned as a voice and influential composer, his music drew inspiration from kombas, the funeral rites where women sang laments. His unique style, characterized as "songs of the soul," earned him the nickname "O Espiritual" (“the Spiritualist”). Between 1972 and 1976, Nunes recorded a dozen singles and contributed two songs to the 33rpm collection Rebita 75. Tragically, he perished in Sambizanga following the unfortunate protests of May 27, 1977.
