Arvo Pärt, born on September 11, 1935, in Paide, Estonia, is a prominent composer of contemporary sacred music. He is known for his strong influences from the minimalist movement and Gregorian chant. Pärt entered the Tallinn Conservatoire in 1958 and gained fame in the USSR with his composition "Our Garden." In the early 1970s, he experimented with serialism but later shifted his focus to Gregorian chant and medieval music, which added a new dimension to his work. His compositions are often described as mystic, restful, and emotional. Pärt is recognized as one of the most important figures in the mystical minimalist movement.
