Arvo Pärt, born on September 11, 1935, in Paide, Estonia, is a prominent composer known for his contemporary sacred music. He is heavily influenced by the minimalist movement and Gregorian chant. Pärt entered the Tallinn Conservatoire in 1958 and gained recognition in the USSR with his composition "Our Garden." In the early 1970s, he experimented with serialism in his works but later shifted his focus to Gregorian chant and medieval music, which added a new dimension to his compositions. His music is often described as mystic, restful, and emotional, making him a significant figure in the mystical minimalist movement.
