Asfalto is a progressive rock band formed in 1972 from the ashes of a previous group. The original lineup consisted of Jose Luis Jiménez (bass and vocals), Mario Del Olmo (guitar, vocals), who was soon replaced by Julio Castejón (guitar, keyboards, and vocals) and Lene Laina (guitar and vocals), along with Pancho Company (drums and vocals), later replaced by Enrique Cajide. Their debut LP, released in 1978, featured tracks like "Rocinante" and "Capitán Trueno," the latter inspired by a famous comic hero in Spain. Despite initial success, the band experienced a split, with Jose Luis Jiménez and Lene Laina forming a new band. They were succeeded by Jorge Garcia Banegas (keyboards) and José Ramón Pérez ("Guny," bass). The first album with this new lineup, "Al Otro Lado," was released in 1979 and is regarded as a significant progressive rock album, despite being somewhat uneven. Following several releases, the band faced issues with Zafiro records, prompting them to establish their own label in 1983, with Miguel Oñate as the new vocalist.
