**Ash Ra Tempel** was a German band that emerged from the late 1960s underground scene in Berlin. The group was centered around guitarist Manuel Göttsching and bassist Hartmut Enke, both of whom had roots in various beat and blues bands, including the Bluebirds, The Bomb Proofs, and Bad Joe. The band's formation was completed when drummer Klaus Schulze joined them, leading to a departure from conventional composition and songwriting in favor of free-form improvisation, which became their signature style. They gained notoriety for lengthy jams, often exceeding 30 minutes, with recordings available on The Private Tapes releases. In March 1971, Ash Ra Tempel recorded their debut album in Hamburg with the assistance of a top engineer. Their music presented a Krautrock twist on the space-rock genre, reminiscent of Pink Floyd and Hawkwind, yet devoid of traditional songs. The album featured two tracks: the powerful "Amboss" and the ethereal "Traummaschine," embodying a yin-and-yang concept that continued in their subsequent albums. After the debut, Schulze departed, and numerous musicians joined the band for their second album, *Schwingungen*, which featured psychedelic blues on one side and a deep space trip on the other. This concept was also explored in the collaboration *Seven Up* with acid guru Timothy Leary. Other collaborations emerged from the Cosmic Couriers idea, including albums with various artists. Schulze returned for the band's fourth album
