Asnakech Worku was an Ethiopian actress, singer, and krar player, born in 1935 in Sidist Kilo, near Addis Ababa. She passed away on September 14, 2011, in Addis Ababa. Cherished in modern Ethiopian history, Asnakech was a musician, actress, dancer, and cultural icon who inspired and challenged society for decades. She was an internationally celebrated performer of Ethiopia’s ancient harp, the krar, making her one of the most visible female musicians of the 20th century.
