Asnakech Worku was an Ethiopian actress, singer, and krar player, born in 1935 in Sidist Kilo, near Addis Ababa. She passed away on September 14, 2011, in Addis Ababa. Renowned as a musician, actress, dancer, and cultural icon, Asnakech inspired and challenged Ethiopian society for decades. She gained international recognition as a performer of Ethiopia’s ancient harp, the krar, making her one of the most prominent female musicians of the 20th century.
