Aural Exciters was a musical project created by producer Bob Blank and composer August Darnell, known for their contributions to the No Wave and Mutant disco scenes. They released one album on ZE Records, featuring vocals from notable figures in the New York Downtown scene, including Lizzy Mercier Descloux, Andy Hernandez (Coati Mundi), Taana Gardner, and violinist Walter Steding. Some of the material from Aural Exciters, written by Darnell, later appeared on Kid Creole's albums. Additionally, the Aural Exciter refers to an important electronic audio-enhancing device that became prominent in sound studios starting in the mid-70s.
