**Bad Religion Bio** Bad Religion is a punk/rock band formed in 1980 in the San Fernando Valley/Los Angeles, CA, by a group of teenagers: (vocals), (guitar), (drums), and (bass). The band is known for its rapid-fire songs featuring a melodic edge and strong backing harmonies. Over the years, only Greg Graffin has remained with the band through every phase of its career, although Brett Gurewitz and Jay Bentley have participated for substantial periods. The band released their first record, a self-titled EP, in 1981 on Epitaph Records, a label Gurewitz started after borrowing money from his father. Their first full-length album, "How Could Hell Be Any Worse?", was released in 1982. Midway through its recording, drummer Pete Ziskrout quit, leading to the album being completed with Finestone. In 1983, Bad Religion released "Into The Unknown," a keyboard-heavy album that received backlash from fans, resulting in Epitaph pulling it from shelves. Gurewitz attributed the album's failure to his drug habit, while Graffin disowned it. Following this, Gurewitz left the band, which subsequently split up. Graffin moved out of state for college but returned to California in 1984, where he was convinced by guitarist Greg Hetson to reform Bad Religion, recruiting Finestone and bassist Tim Gallegos. They released a 12"
