Massimo Magrini, known by his stage name Bad Sector, was born in 1966 in Lucca, Tuscany, Italy. He earned a long degree in Computer Science from Pisa University, where he focused his thesis on musical applications of the Object Oriented paradigm. Magrini studied electronic music under Alfonso Belfiore at the State Conservatory of Florence and collaborated with the Computer Music Lab of the CNUCE Institute of the Italian National Council of Research (CNR), where he developed hardware and software tools and composed interactive computer music, performing in various countries including Italy, Spain, Greece, and Cuba. In the late 1980s, he played in a local electronic band called Jesus Blood, utilizing self-built analog and digital synthesizers. In 1992, he launched his Bad Sector musical project, exploring dark sonic areas and blending ambient, experimental, noise, and minimal music. He has released several CDs and vinyls, receiving positive feedback from international underground electronic music magazines and audiences. As Bad Sector, he has performed live in Italy, France, England, Germany, the Czech Republic, Austria, Belgium, Australia, and Russia. In 2001, Magrini co-founded another project that delves into the realms of dark ambient and concrete experimental music, using sounds recorded in extreme locations such as caves and underwater.
