Bad Smitty, originally from Mississippi, later moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where he regularly performed alongside many local blues luminaries. His 1991 release, "Mean Disposition," was recognized as one of the best folk recordings of the year by the Library of Congress. In May 1993, Smitty was featured on the cover of Living Blues magazine. He passed away in Jackson, Mississippi, on April 3, 2002, due to complications from diabetes.
