Bananarama is a British girl group formed in London in 1981 by childhood friends Sara Dallin, Keren Woodward, and their friend Siobhan Fahey. The group's name is a combination of the children's TV show The Banana Splits and the Roxy Music song "Pyjamarama." After their debut single, produced by former member Jolley, reached #92, they teamed up with ex-member Fun Boy Three's new band. Their single "It Ain't What You Do," released in February 1982, entered the UK charts at number 4. International success followed with their self-titled second album, produced by Steve Jolley and Tony Swain, featuring the hit single "Cruel Summer." In 1986, the group collaborated with UK dance music super-producers Stock Aitken Waterman and achieved worldwide success with their cover of Shocking Blue's classic "Venus," reaching number one in multiple countries, including the US. Siobhan left the trio in 1988 to form a new group and was replaced by Jacquie O'Sullivan, who had appeared with the original lineup in the video for "Who's That Girl" in June 1983. That same year, Bananarama was recognized by the Guinness Book of Records as the most successful female group in pop history, surpassing the Supremes. They celebrated this achievement by releasing a SAW-produced version of the Supremes' "Nathan Jones." Jac
