Banbarra was a hard rockin' funk band known for their standout single, "Shack Up." The group was formed by Joseph "Bunny" Carter and Moe Daniels (née Moses McDaniel). The origins of "Shack Up" trace back to an instrumental track by McDaniel called "Boogie On The Other Side Of Town," which Carter transformed into a lyrical plea to skip the marriage ceremony. The song was brought to life with the help of studio session musicians John Cannon on drums, Lance Quinn on guitar, and Steve Moody on bass. After recording Carter's vocals, the producers decided to replace him with vocalist Wesley Adylett, believing Carter was not suited for a long-term role in the band. Consequently, Carter's vocals were removed, and Adylett recorded a new version. The final product was split into two parts and released as a single by United Artists. Following this, Carter left the group, taking its essence with him. The single reportedly peaked at #4 on the Billboard Club Play Chart, though it is not mentioned in Joel Whitburn's "Hot Dance/Disco 1974 - 2003." The song faded into obscurity until it was covered by UK new wave band A Certain Ratio in 1981, reaching #46 on the disco chart.
