Barbara Mason is a renowned soul, funk, and disco singer-songwriter born on August 9, 1947, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is celebrated for her significant contributions to music, including her first hit "Yes I'm Ready" in 1965, her cover of the standard "Give Me Your Love" in 1973, and the synth soul classic "Another Man" in 1984. From a young age, Barbara displayed musical talent, beginning to play her grandmother's piano at twelve. While still in school, she formed several musical groups, where she took on the role of lead singer, songwriter, and pianist, winning many local talent shows. Her connections in the Philadelphia music scene led to performances at various nightclubs, where she caught the attention of influential figures, including a popular DJ who helped finance her debut single "Trouble Child." After a successful career in music, Barbara left the industry in the early 1980s to focus on her publishing company, Marc James Music, named after her son. However, in 1992, she returned to the stage, performing at the famous Greek Theatre in Los Angeles and has since made regular appearances on the American west coast.
