Barry White was an American musician, composer, and producer born on September 12, 1944, in Galveston, Texas. He began his career as a pianist and played on Jesse Belvin's R&B hit "Goodnight My Love." At the age of 11, he recorded music under the name "Barry Lee" and was a member of several groups, including The Upfronts, The Atlantics, and The Majestics. Although White achieved some success as a solo artist, he found greater recognition as a background figure and manager for other artists like Felice Taylor and Viola Wills. In 1969, he founded Love Unlimited, a female vocal trio that included Diane Taylor, Glodean James (who would become his wife), and her sister Linda. He also established the Love Unlimited Orchestra, a 40-piece ensemble that provided musical direction, composition, and arrangement for himself and the vocal trio. As the new millennium approached, White's health began to decline, and he passed away on July 4, 2003, in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 58 due to kidney failure.
