Basement 5 was formed in 1978 from the Art Department of London's Island Records HQ. This innovative and original black Post-Punk group created a politically charged, futurist Dub sound. Their lyrics aimed to reflect the experiences of young people in Britain during the era of Thatcherism, characterized by high unemployment, strikes, racism, and working-class poverty.
