Basia Bulat is a Canadian folk singer and songwriter based in Montreal, born on April 13, 1984, in Etobicoke, Toronto, and raised in London, Ontario. Of Polish descent, she comes from a musical background, as her mother was a classical music teacher. Bulat is proficient in several instruments, including the piano, guitar, autoharp, and zither. She released her first independent EP in 2005, titled simply Basia Bulat. In 2007, she signed with Rough Trade, which released her album Oh, My Darling. Her third album, Tall, Tall Shadow, released in 2013, was inspired largely by the death of a friend.
