Batacumbele is a Puerto Rican musical group formed in the 1980s by percussionist Angel "Cachete" Maldonado from Santurce. The group embraces a sound influenced by the modernity of the Irakere group and the style of Van Van, while also incorporating traditional Borinquen rhythms such as Bomba and Plena. Their music is a fusion of jazz with African drums, Cuban santeros rites, and a distinct Caribbean sound.
