Beck is an American musician, singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist born on July 8, 1970, in Los Angeles, California, USA. He is the son of unnamed parents and the grandson of unnamed grandparents. Beck was married from 2004 to 2019. After his parents' separation, he and his younger brother lived with their mother. He dropped out of school at the age of 14 and spent about a decade drifting before returning to Los Angeles. During this time, he participated in open-mike events, which led to his discovery by the small local label Bong Load Custom Records. In 1993, his song "Loser" was released in a limited pressing of 500 copies and sent to radio DJs across the U.S. The song gained popularity, and in November 1993, Beck signed with DGC/Geffen/MCA, who allowed him the freedom to work with independent labels and create uncommercial music. The DGC release of "Loser" in January 1994 became an international hit.
