Bedeu, born Jorge Moacir da Silva on December 4, 1946, in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, was a Brazilian singer, songwriter, and percussionist known for his innovative blend of samba, rock, and swing. He emerged as a key figure in the development of samba-rock in southern Brazil during the 1970s. His career began in São Paulo, where his compositions were recorded by prominent Brazilian artists including Neguinho da Beija-Flor, Jair Rodrigues, Wilson Simonal, and Originais do Samba. Bedeu also collaborated as a percussionist with musicians such as César Camargo Mariano and Eduardo Assad. In 1975, he co-founded a group in Porto Alegre with Cy, Alexandre, Nego Luís, Leco, and Leleco Telles, which released two LPs: O Samba e Suas Origens (1978) and Pau Brasil (1979). The group was recognized for its creative fusion of samba and rock elements. Bedeu launched his solo career in 1983 with the album África no Fundo do Quintal. Throughout the 1990s, he released several notable albums, including Iluminado (1993) and his final work, Swing Popular Brasileiro (1998), featuring both new songs and re-recorded classics.
