Béla Viktor János Bartók was born on March 25, 1881, in Nagyszentmiklós, which is now Sânnicolau Mare, Romania. He was a Hungarian composer, pianist, ethnomusicologist, and collector of Eastern European and Middle Eastern folk music. Bartók is regarded as one of the greatest composers of the twentieth century, known for his daring harmonic instincts and passionate studies of Hungarian folk songs. His style is characterized by elements derived from Hungarian, Transylvanian, and Romanian folklore, featuring irregular and obsessive rhythms. His compositions often exhibit sonorities that are abstract, harsh, rough, and barbaric. He was married to a pianist, and his second son became a recording engineer. Bartók passed away on September 26, 1945, in New York, New York, USA.
