Beny Moré, born on August 24, 1919, in Santa Isabel de las Lajas, Cienfuegos, Cuba, was a renowned Cuban musician celebrated for his exceptional voice and mastery of various genres, including son montuno, mambo, guaracha, guajira, cha cha cha, Afro-Cuban, canción, guaguancó, and bolero. Despite lacking formal music training, he led his own orchestra and wrote his own music. In 1940, Moré moved to Havana, where he performed in clubs, restaurants, bars, and cafes, initially accompanied by his guitar. His breakthrough came when he won first prize on the CMQ radio station's talent show, La Corte Suprema del Arte. He was discovered by Siro Rodríguez of the Trío Matamoros while singing in the bar El Temple, which led to his touring Mexico as the lead singer with Conjunto Matamoros in the mid-forties. Moré settled in Mexico, where he recorded music and performed with the popular band Son Veracruz. He produced around 60 records with the Damaso Perez Prado Orchestra. In the late 1950s, he returned to Cuba and formed the Giant Orchestra in August 1953, achieving immense popularity in the US and Latin America. Moré remained in Cuba until his death in 1963. He was affectionately known as "El Bárbaro del Ritmo" and "El Sonero Mayor."
