Bessie Griffin was a contralto gospel singer born in 1922 in New Orleans, USA. She began her career in 1942 and signed an exclusive contract with a label in September 1949. In 1951, she moved to Chicago, where she met and joined a group in 1953. Returning to New Orleans, she sang with Professor in 1958. In the 1960s, Griffin became the first artist to perform gospel music in Hollywood nightclubs. She toured Africa and Europe in the 1970s and passed away in 1989.
