Betty Boo, whose real name is Alison Clarkson, initially trained to be a sound engineer while at school. She gained recognition with her UK hit "Hey DJ I Can't Dance (To That Music You're Playing)" and was previously a vocalist for various acts, including Hit 'N' Run. Her debut solo album, which she mostly self-produced, led to two additional top ten hits, earning her the 1991 Brit Award for Best Pop Artist. However, her second album did not achieve commercial success, and a planned world tour was cancelled after it was revealed that she was lip-synching her vocals. In 1997, Clarkson returned to the music industry as a songwriter, co-writing a record-breaking single that became the fastest-selling in UK chart history, and has written for other artists as well. In October 2022, she released a new album titled "Boomerang."
