**Bettye Swann** Born Betty Jean Champion on October 24, 1944, in Shreveport, Louisiana, Bettye Swann is best known for her 1967 R&B chart-topper "Make Me Yours." Raised in Arcadia, Louisiana, she began her musical journey by singing locally with high school friends as The Fawns. In 1963, she relocated to Los Angeles to pursue a solo career and signed with an independent label. Swann made her mark on the national charts with her debut release, "Don't Wait Too Long," in 1963, which she wrote herself and was arranged by a notable West Coast arranger. Her hit "Make Me Yours" reached #1 on the R&B chart in 1967 and became a favorite in both the UK's Northern Soul scene and the US Beach Music scene, with over a dozen covers by other artists. After achieving further success with "Fall In Love With Me," she left her label, Money, in 1968. Her recordings with Capitol were produced by a well-known figure and featured a blend of Soul and Country Music. In 1969, she scored a hit with a version of "Don't Touch Me" and recorded a duet with a Country Music superstar, although it was shelved due to the inter-racial pairing.
