Big John Patton was an American jazz organist and pianist born on July 12, 1935, in Kansas City, Missouri. He passed away on March 19, 2002, in Montclair, New Jersey. Patton began his career as a pianist with a touring band from 1954 to 1959 before moving to New York. There, he transitioned from piano to organ and recorded with various artists from 1962 to 1964. In the mid-1980s, he was rediscovered by a younger generation, which began to incorporate his sound into their recordings. Patton continued to release new recordings into the 1990s, including two on a Japanese label.
