Big Stick emerged from the NYC art rock underground in the mid-80s, distinguishing themselves both stylistically and sonically from the noise-damage darlings of the junkie punk scene and their more prominent counterparts. The duo, comprised of John Gill and Yanna Trance, was a live-work-kill couple who concocted their unique sonic experiments in a secret headquarters, offering little explanation and revealing even less about their artistic process. They performed in elaborate masks, and all known press photos maintained the air of mystery, obscuring their true identities with feathers, wigs, and antlers.
