William John Evans, better known as Bill Evans, was an American jazz pianist and composer, born on August 16, 1929, in Plainfield, New Jersey. He passed away on September 15, 1980, in New York City at the age of 51. Bill Evans became one of the most famous and influential jazz pianists of the 20th century, renowned for his use of impressionist harmony, inventive interpretations of traditional jazz repertoire, and his signature rhythmically independent, "singing" melodic lines, which greatly influenced a generation of pianists. Throughout his career, he received seven Grammy Awards in various categories, including Best Instrumental Jazz Performance and Best Jazz Performance.
