Bill Haley & The Comets were an influential American rock and roll band, established in 1952 and active until the death of their leader, Bill Haley, on February 9, 1981. The band was also known by variations of their name, including Bill Haley and the Comets and Bill Haley's Comets. Over the years, more than 100 musicians played with the group, contributing to its rich history. The original lineup of the Comets from 1952 to 1955 included Bill Haley on vocals and guitar, along with members on piano, accordion, steel guitar, string bass, tenor sax, drums, sax, double bass, and lead guitar. Notable members during this period included Frank "Franny" Beecher, who played lead guitar from 1955 to 1962. The band also employed various session musicians throughout its early years.
